ISSUE OF PIO CARD

PERSON OF INDIAN ORIGIN (PIO) CARD

       A PIO card is a long term visa for India with no restrictions on number of visits and with exemption from any registration formalities. It also offers a range of economic, financial and cultural benefits on par with Non Resident Indians (NRIs).

ELIGIBLITY FOR PIO CARD

A person is entitled for a PIO card if :

i) He/She or either of his/her parents/grand parents/great grand parents was at any time a citizen of India
ii) He/She is a spouse of a citizen of India.

An application for issue/renewal of a PIO card can be made in the prescribed form. The form is available from the Consular Section of the Embassy and can also be downloaded from the following link:PIO Application

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR ISSUE OF PIO CARD

1. Completed Application form, with four colored Passport size photographs.

2. Proof of Indian citizenship of either applicant, parents, grand parents or great grand parents. Proof of Indian citizenship of one person from these categories is sufficient. A copy of the Indian passport of one of these persons is the most reliable proof of Indian citizenship.

3. Original Myanmar Passport along with its copy. Original passport will be returned after the scrutiny.

VALIDITY OF A PIO CARD


A PIO card is valid for a period of 15 (fifteen) years from the date of issue subject to the validity of the Myanmar passport of the applicant.

FACILITIES ENJOYED BY A PIO CARD HOLDER IN INDIA

1. A PIO Card holder shall not require a separate visa to visit India.
2. A PIO card holder will also be exempted from the requirement of FRRO registration, if his stay on any single visit does not exceed 180 days.
All PIO Card holder shall enjoy parity with NRIs in respect of all facilities available to the latter in economic,
financial and educational fields except in matters relating to the acquisition of agricultural/ plantation properties. No parity shall be allowed in the sphere of political rights
